Cottage Grove, OR :1 dead, 2 seriously injured in crash; driver charged with manslaughter on Tuesday, July 14th 2015
One person died and two others were seriously injured when a drunk driver lost control of his truck and crashed Monday evening, Oregon State Police said.Amber L. Cobiskey of Cottage Grove, 20, died at the scene.Two passengers - Forest Cobiskey, 18, and a 16-year-old boy - were taken to the Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield for serious injuries. The boy remained in ICU as of Tuesday afternoon.The three were riding in the bed of the truck at the time of the crash.
State police said Kyle Bond, 25, of Eugene was behind the wheel of the 1985 GMC 1500 with the 5 passengers when he lost control on Row River Road around 6:20 p.m.
The truck went off the road before veering back onto the roadway and hitting a concrete barrier, police said. The truck overturned, ejecting the passengers riding in the bed of the truck, police said.Bond and Tyler James Stuner, 18, were not injured. Stuner was riding in the cab of the truck.Jonathan Max Bellone, 21, who was also riding in the cab of the truck, suffered minor injuries, police said.A press release from police Tuesday morning incorrectly stated that Stuner and Bellone suffered serious injuries and that the 16-year-old was not injured. This version of the story includes the latest information from police as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.Bond was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail on the charges of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, 2 counts of Assault in the Third Degree, five counts of Reckless Endangering and DUII, state police said.
