Pittsburg, KS : One injured in wreck at 520th Avenue and Highway 69 bypass on Saturday, July 30, 2016
Police suspect driving under the influence led to Saturday’s two-car, one-injury crash at 520th Avenue and Highway 69 bypass.
In a press release Monday, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said 32-year-old Michael Whilchy, of Pittsburg, ran a stop sign in a 2001 Ford Taurus while driving west on 520th and collided with a 2010 Dodge Caravan driven by Cody Lindbloom heading south on the bypass.
Lindbloom, 21, of Frontenac, and a passenger were uninjured. The Caravan came to rest in the grass facing Pittsburg Ford.
Whilchy’s passenger was also uninjured. The Taurus was spun 50 yards south into a utility pole.
Whilchy was transported to the hospital after sustaining “unknown injuries,” according to the release.
Whilchy was cited with failure to yield at a stop sign, no proof of insurance and driving with a suspended license. He was also tested for driving under the influence.
The incident remains under investigation.
