Chelsea, MI : 61-year-old Southgate man is still in critical condition following a single vehicle crash on North Line Road on Friday, September 9, 2016

A 61-year-old Southgate man is still in critical condition following a single vehicle crash at about 1:15 p.m. Sept. 9.

The crash, which happened in front of the Downriver Family YMCA on North Line Road, closed the road for several hours.

Director of Public Safety Jeff Smith said, no cause of the crash has been determined yet.

“We’ll have to wait on the blood and toxins screen to see exactly what happened,” he said.
He said, most crashes involving only one vehicle are typically due to a medical condition.

“None of the witnesses said he cut them off or anything,” Smith said. “He just hit the curb and crashed.”

The car ended up in the entrance to the Sam’s Club parking lot before it came to a halt.

Smith said, the man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. He checked on the man Monday morning and he had been transferred to a different hospital, still in critical condition.

No one other than the man was injured in the crash.
