CHICAGO, IL : 5 Chicago police officers injured in crash on Saturday, December 31st 2016
A collision of two Chicago police vehicles responding to a call of officers needing assistance has left five officers injured.
Authorities say the two officers who needed help early Saturday were trying to arrest a person who had been involved in a crash in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. The officers were injured during the arrest attempt, and they eventually used a stun gun to take a man into custody. The man was not immediately identified.
Officers in two unmarked police cars were injured when their vehicles collided a little over a mile away as they headed to the scene to assist in the arrest.
Authorities say six officers, including the five involved in the crash, were taken to area hospitals to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
