DAVISON TOWNSHIP, MI : 1 motorist dead, Michigan county sheriff injured in crash on Thursday, December 8th, 2016

Authorities say one motorist is dead and the sheriff of Lapeer County in eastern Michigan was injured in a traffic crash.

Davison Township police Chief Rick Freeman says preliminary reports show a vehicle crossed the center line and struck the sheriff’s vehicle on Thursday, causing a head-on crash. Freeman says the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Lapeer County Sheriff Ron Kalanquin was taken to the hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries wasn’t immediately known.

The identity of the deceased motorist wasn’t immediately released.

Local police, fire fighters and the Michigan State Traffic Reconstruction team all responded.
