A man died in a single-vehicle accident early Friday morning in South Gulf Cove.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol:
At about 1:30 a.m., Donald Paulsen II, 32, Englewood was driving a 1999 Ford F350 pickup truck east on Ingraham Boulevard, approaching the intersection with St. Paul Drive.
Paulsen ran the stop sign and drove through the intersection. The truck turned to the right just past the intersection and drove southbound on the northbound grassy shoulder of St. Paul Drive. Paulsen lost control of the truck, which hit a concrete culvert and overturned onto its left side.
A passenger in the truck, Owen Anders, 55, of Port Charlotte was pronounced dead at the scene. Paulsen was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Another passenger, Richard Akers, 42, of Port Charlotte suffered minor injuries.
No one in the truck was wearing a seat belt, the FHP reports. The accident remains under investigation.
