Staunton,VA : Racing team 'devastated' by truck driver's I-81 accident on January, Monday 29th 2018

The Miss GEICO Offshore Racing Team considers itself a family, which probably is one of the reasons it has been so successful.

So when the team, which has won eight world powerboat championships, received the news that Rusty Ward, one of its transportation specialists, was seriously injured in Monday's truck-trailer crash on Interstate 81 in Greenville, it shook the organization from top to bottom.

Ward, 44, of Inman, South Carolina, and his twin brother, Dusty, were driving northbound on I-81 in separate trucks, transporting the team's Miss GEICO racing boat and other equipment from Atlanta to New York for the New York Boat Show, when the accident occurred shortly before noon Monday at mile marker 211.9.
