Centerville, TN : Three people are dead and two people have critical injuries after a crash June 27th 2014.
Three people are dead and two people have critical injuries after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 40.
The westbound lanes of I-40 were closed for hours near mile marker 161 Friday.
Officials said a semi was attempting to pass a truck east bound on I-40, when the truck shifted lanes, striking the semi with his left rear side.
The wreck caused the semi to cross the median and charge into oncoming traffic on I-40 westbound.
The semi struck a car transporting five people, killing William John Shelburne, 22; Claire Shelburne, 19; and Laura Shelburne, 50.
The other two passengers are at Vanderbilt Medical Center with critical injuries. Terry Shelburne, 51, is listed in stable condition, while Abel Shelburne, 13, is listed in critical but stable condition.
Neighbors said the Shelburnes moved to Bon Aqua about three to four years ago, and the family mainly kept to themselves.
The driver of the semi was injured, as was his passenger, a 6-year-old girl. An incident report identifies the driver as Charles Barber.
Information from the Tennessee Highway Patrol indicates Barber drove a truck for Amika Logistics, also known as MPS Truck Lines. The address for MPS is in Mount Juliet. Phone calls the business went unanswered Saturday afternoon.
