Ocala, FL : David Gerard Hanson, 84, killed in single-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon, March 13, 2017
An elderly man died at a local hospital in a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Monday afternoon.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, the deceased was identified as David Gerard Hanson, 84, of Ocala. Hanson died at West Marion Community Hospital.
Troopers said Hanson, driving a 2009 Toyota Scion, backed out of a private driveway in a northerly direction and struck a house with the vehicle's right rear section. The vehicle then accelerated and traveled west on Southwest 60th Place and struck several mailboxes. Officials said the vehicle continued west on Southwest 60th Place then hit a street sign and traveled across all four lanes of Southwest 60th Avenue. Authorities said the vehicle then entered the west tree line and hit two trees with its front section.
Hanson, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was taken to the hospital where he died. The crash occurred at 2:30 p.m.
Officials said during their investigation, information gathered indicated that Hanson likely suffered a medical event which led to the crash.
