A 91-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon in a two-car crash during a police chase in Wichita, authorities said.
The crash occurred when a car being pursued ran a red light and struck another vehicle.
The victim was identified as James L. Dexter, of Wichita.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 12:12 p.m. Monday at 21st and Arkansas in Wichita.
The patrol’s crash log indicated Dexter was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion south on Arkansas Avenue when his vehicle was struck by a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta that was eastbound on 21st.
The patrol said the Volkswagen, which was driven by 18-year-old Alex Davis of Arkansas City, ran a traffic light during the pursuit.
Dexter was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the patrol said.
Davis wasn’t injured. The patrol said he was wearing a seat belt.
