Tucson, AZ : A motorcyclist who was killed in a two-vehicle crash at 3000 E. Valencia Road, near South Country Club Road OnTuesday, April 26th, 2016
A motorcyclist who was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning was identified as 23-year-old Juan Manuel Mosqueira, police said.
Shortly after 8 a.m., officers responded to 3000 E. Valencia Road, near South Country Club Road to a report of a motorcycle crash with serious injuries.
Officers found the motorcyclist in the road with people rendering first-aid before Tucson Fire Department paramedics arrived, said authorities. Paramedics continued treatment but he was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.
Traffic detectives determined that Mosqueira, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling east on Valencia on a 2008 Yamaha Sport Motorcycle at a high-rate of speed. Witnesses said they saw the motorcyclist switching lanes and passing multiple
vehicles, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.
As the motorcyclist was traveling, a 2002 Peterbilt garbage truck pulled out of a parking lot on the south-side of the road. As the truck was attempting to make a left turn, the motorcyclist crashed with the side of the truck, said police.
No citations were issued at the scene. The investigation is continuing. Detectives said speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
Since January, there have been 14 fatalities in the city, compared to 19 at this time last year, police data shows.
