Thursday shortly after 8 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on I-310 south between LA 18 and LA 3127. The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old Chalanta Brown of LaPlace.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Sterling dump truck, driven by Brown, was traveling in the right lane of I-310 south at a very slow rate of speed for unknown reasons. A Kenworth 18-wheeler, driven by 31-year-old Glen Robichaux Jr. of Gheens, was traveling in the right lane of I-310 and rear-ended the dump truck. The Kenworth was carrying approximately 8,000 gallons of gasoline and exploded, becoming fully engulfed in flames. The dump truck overturned on its passenger side. Robichaux was able to escape from the cab of the tractor and was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Brown died on the scene.
