Arnold, MD : 25-year-old man seriously hurt when car struck a pole and overturned on Shore Acres Road in Arnold Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015

A 25-year-old Annapolis man sustained life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in Arnold, police said.

Eric Angelo Tyler, Jr., was driving a 1996 Mercedes E-320 north on Shore Acres Road when it left the roadway at Four Acres Court, struck and severed a utility pole, and overturned, police said.

Tyler was briefly trapped in the vehicle, said county fire department spokesman Capt. Russ Davies.

After Tyler was removed from the car, he was flown by helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with critical, life-threatening injuries, police said.
As of early Tuesday evening, Tyler was in critical condition.
Police said excessive speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
