PUPUKEA, HI : 70-year-old pedestrian struck and killed by car on Oahu"s North Shore on Tuesday, 24th September 2024

A 70-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car on Oahu’s North Shore, Tuesday morning.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. near Kamehameha Highway and Pupukea Road, in the Pupukea area.

According to Honolulu Police (HPD) crash investigators, a teen driver was heading west on Kamehameha Highway when he lost control of his car, left the roadway, and crashed into the back two women who were walking on an “unimproved” shoulder area alongside Kamehameha Highway.

One of the pedestrians, a 70-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrian, a 68-year-old woman, sustained minor injury to the arm and refused treatment.

The teen driver was uninjured in the crash and remained at the scene, police said. Investigators say they do not believe that speeding, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
