Memphis, TN : One man hit and killed in car crash near I-40 downtown Nashville on Monday, September 19th 2016

Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed on I-40 near downtown Nashville overnight.Traffic investigators said a man crashed his car into a concrete barrier on I-65 South near the overpass for D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard.

The man then reportedly got out of his car then started walking to where the I-40 West overpass connects with I-65 South.

Witnesses told police they pulled over and tried to get the man to stop, but they said he ran off.

Police said the man was sitting down in the road when a tractor-trailer traveling west on I-40 came around the curve and hit him.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Daniel Kostyk of La Vergne.

Police said Kostyk’s car was later struck by another vehicle traveling south on I-65. No one was injured in that crash.

It's not clear if the driver saw the man before hitting him or if he knew he had hit someone.

Police said toxicology testing will be conducted on Kostyk to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash.
