Miami, FL : One person died, seven injured after two-car crash at the intersection Northwest 35th Avenue and Seventh Street on Wednesday, Sep 30, 2015

One person's dead, and as many as seven other people have been hospitalized after a collision between two vehicles in Miami, at the intersection Northwest 35th Avenue and Seventh Street.

7Skyforce flew over the scene at around 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, where one vehicle could be seen flipped on its side. "As they were coming east on Northwest Seventh Street, there was another vehicle, this black vehicle right here, was making a left onto 35th Avenue," said Miami Police Lt. Freddie Cruz. "That's when the collision occurred.

Several Miami Fire Rescue vehicles responded to the scene. Rescue crews confirmed eight people in total were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. "We ended up transporting eight people to the hospital, making this a level one mass casualty incident," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll.

"I just saw two cars crash and our quick instinct was to go help the students, I mean, our friends, obviously," said student Sinai Rodriguez.

Two of those transported, included an elderly couple who were transported as a trauma alert. The elderly male, who was driving a black Nissan, died at the hospital. "This is breathtaking because like I tell you, it could be one of your friends, one of your family members, your father, your brother, whoever," said Jose Sanchez, a witness.

Six teenagers, ages ranging from 17 to 19, were also transported. Two of the teenagers were also trauma alerted to Jackson Trauma Center. The students had all just finished with class at Green Springs High School when the crash occurred.

Fellow students ran to assist their classmates and the others who were hurt. "I broke the window because the lady's door was locked and we took the old lady out of the car. She was on top of her husband," said Alex Rodriguez.

"We did what we had to do and help our friends and help people," said Sinai.

Miry and Jorge Rodriguez are proud of their son, Alex, and his friends for their brave act. "They had a little difficulty taking the gentleman out, but between the three of them, they took him out," said Miry Rodriguez. "They all jumped in, they didn't hesitate."

"They called me, they were really scared, it scared me as well, but I am proud of what they did," said Jorge.
