Memphis, TN : 14-year-old arrested after stolen car crashes into truck in South Memphis on Tuesday night, Nov 10, 2015

A 14-year-old is accused of crashing a stolen car after a brief police chase in South Memphis.

Police said the car smashed into the back of a truck on Tampa Avenue Tuesday night. The vehicle was hit so hard it broke the front grill after slamming into the back of a boat.

"I heard this noise—‘bam,’ and I come out and the car had hit my truck and knocked it into my boat,” said Foster Adams.

Investigators said officers tried to pull over a Toyota 4-Runner for a traffic stop near Tampa and Marjorie. As soon as they switched on the blue lights, police said the 14-year-old sped off and immediately crashed the car.

"It's pathetic, you know,” Adams said. “I thought about--first thing I thought about was he's a juvenile starting that early, where is he going to wind up?”

Officers said all four males inside the car jumped out and ran from police. Adams said he saw the driver jump his fence and run into his backyard, hiding in a corner.

"I told them where he was. They went back there and apprehended him."

Police said the car was stolen last week by a masked gunman. Officers said they found a silver handgun in the floorboard of the car and a carrying case for a long rifle in the back.

"My concern goes out for the delinquents - the delinquent child, children and their parents,” Adams said. “I just hope there is some kind of intervention to keep them from going forward in their crime life.”

Police have not confirmed if the three passengers were teens or if they were arrested as of Wednesday.

Adams said he thinks his truck is now a total loss.
