CUSTER COUNTY, CO : ATV rider rescued following crash in Colorado wilderness on Wednesday, 2nd October 2024
Thanks to a team effort, a woman was rescued following an ATV accident in rural Custer County over the weekend.
The county search and rescue team says it was called along with sheriff’s deputies Wet Mountain firefighters to the Rainbow Trail Sunday afternoon. The trail runs for more than 100 miles down the east side of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and is described as strenuous with loose, rocky sections and steep stretches. ATVs are permitted, along with hikers and mountain bikers.
The crash was reported north of the Gibson trailhead down a steep embankment. Search and rescue said with the help of the other agencies, they were able to find the rider and hoist her back up to the trail.
“Once back on the Rainbow Trail, we then transported her with an ATV and the stokes litter trailer to meet emergency personnel,” Custer County Search and Rescue said.
