CHANUTE, KS : Driver dies in head-on crash while passing vehicles on Kansas highway shoulder on Monday, 6th May 2024

A 40-year-old man has died following a head-on crash on a southeast Kansas highway on Monday.

It happened just after 3 p.m. on U.S. 169 near 150th Road, which is about five miles south of Chanute. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a southbound Chevrolet truck was passing vehicles on the northbound shoulder and collided head-on with a northbound SUV.

The man driving the truck, Branson Dean of Alma, Arkansas, was killed. The 51-year-old Missouri man driving the SUV was hospitalized with serious injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
