WORCESTER, MA : One person seriously injured in crash on Blithewood Avenue in Worcester on Tuesday, 18th September 2018

One person was seriously hurt and trapped in a car that crashed on Blithewood Avenue late Tuesday night.

Firefighters used tools and pried away pieces of the driver’s side of the mangled Mercedes-Benz sedan while paramedics reached in from the passenger side to tend to the driver.

After several minutes, the driver, who appeared unresponsive, was freed and rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Debris was strewn for quite a distance across the road. A car battery and exhaust parts lined the curb several yards from where the car came to rest.

Neighbors said they only heard a loud bang, but did not see the crash. Several people said the car’s engine was on fire before it was put out with an extinguisher.
