A Madison County man was killed in a Saturday morning car accident, state police said.

Shortly after 11 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Oxbow Road, near Bennett Road, for a report of a one-car rollover motor vehicle accident.

The investigation determined that Thomas K. Hill, 72, of Peterboro, was driving a 2008 Honda Civic southeast on Oxbow Road when the vehicle crossed over the opposite lane and left the north shoulder of the roadway, police said.

The vehicle struck a mailbox and a group of small trees before overturning onto its roof along the shoulder of the road.

Hill was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department and transported by Greater Lenox Ambulance to Oneida Healthcare, police said.

Hill was pronounced dead at the hospital. The investigation is continuing.
