Rice Lake, WI : Two women seriously injured in a crash on Hwy. M near 23rd Street early Friday morning, April 7, 2017
Alcohol and speed likely contributed to a one vehicle rollover north of Rice lake that seriously injured two young women early this Friday morning.
Driver Danielle Melgaard, 24, of Rice Lake was southbound on Hwy. M near 23rd Street at about 5 a.m. when the vehicle left the road and rolled several times, covering a distance of 289 feet, stated a news release issued by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.
Melgaard, who wasn’t wearing her seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire.
Her passenger, Britney Greener, 21, of Rice Lake was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by the Rice Lake Fire Department. Greener was taken to Lakeview Medical Center and later airlifted to a medical facility, the news release stated.
Sheriff’s deputies and the State Patrol also responded to the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
