Butte, MT : 21-year-old Virginia woman dies in fatal accident outside Jens early Sunday morning, November 6, 2016
A 21-year-old woman from Alexandria, Virginia, died early Sunday morning in a rollover crash near the I-90 exit for Jens.
Montana Highway Patrol Dispatcher Will Campbell said the woman was driving west on I-90 one mile east of Jens when she drove off the interstate onto a nearby frontage road. The woman over-corrected the vehicle, Campbell said, which caused the car to roll several times, until it re-emerged on the freeway, landing on its left side.
The woman was deceased when Montana Highway Patrol arrived on the scene just before 12:30 a.m. Trooper James Handy, who responded to the scene, said the woman sustained a fatal head injury.
Also in the car was a 22-year-old man from Redmond, Washington, and a 21-year-old woman from Snohomish, Washington. Handy said the man sustained minor to moderate injuries and that both he and the Snohomish woman were transported to Deer Lodge Medical Center in Deer Lodge.
Handy said all three occupants were wearing seat belts and that alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors.
