A motorcycle accident involving three bikes sent two people to the hospital on Thursday afternoon.
At 2:11 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Jason Woody, 34, of Harrison Township, Mich., was leading two other bikers north on N.C. 80. As they proceeded up the road, Woody drifted off the side of the road and crashed his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle.
According to Trooper P.W. Ruppe of the N.C. Highway Patrol, the two bikers following veered off as well to avoid collision and crashed off the road. Ruppe confirmed that none of the motorcycles collided with each other.
P.G. Fire Department, McDowell Rescue Squad, McDowell EMS and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the call.
The second biker was identified as Frank Joseph Kennedy, 57, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.
The third biker, who would not give his name, was shaken by the accident.
“By the time I saw Joe [Kennedy] fall in behind Jason, I hopped off my bike and fell right beside everyone,” said the biker.
Woody and Kennedy were taken to McDowell Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
All three bikers were charged with failure to maintain lane control.
