Fort Myers, FL : 65-year-old Terry Dewyre dead after Ford truck crashed into a Lee County bus bench near Summerlin Road on Saturday morning, February 21, 2015

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal Saturday morning crash in Fort Myers.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. at Kelly Cove Drive near Summerlin Road.

According to troopers, a Ford truck was going west on Summerlin Road approaching Kelly Cove Drive. That's when for an unknown reason the vehicle swerved off the roadway. The truck then crashed into a Lee County bus bench and sign before ending up in a canal.

The driver of the truck - later identified as 65-year-old Terry Dewyre of Midland, Michigan - was taken to Health Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers on scene say preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the crash was a medical issue.

The truck has been removed from the canal.
