Austin, TX : 82-year-old woman from Tennessee was killed and two people were hospitalized after a crash on Wednesday, 23rd May 2018
An 82-year-old woman from Tennessee was killed and two people were hospitalized after a crash Wednesday night involving two vehicles on Siegen Lane near Cloverland Avenue, emergency officials said.
Senior Trooper Bryan Lee, a State Police spokesman, identified Carolyn Ozment, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, as the woman killed in the wreck.
Blake Starkey, 51, of Springfield, was driving a 2011 Dodge Ram north on Siegen Lane at about 7 p.m. when he crossed the two-way left turn lane into the southbound lane and hit a 2015 Chevrolet Cruz driven by 62-year-old Cheryl Patterson, of Arlington, Texas, Lee said.
Ozment was a passenger in Patterson's vehicle, and she wasn't wearing a seat belt.
Ozment was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, but later died from her injuries, Lee said.
Starkey, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries, Lee said. Patterson was wearing a seat belt and was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
State Police are investigating the wreck, but suspect that Starkey was impaired at the time of the crash, Lee said. They will take toxicology samples from both drivers.
