Crestview, FL : Two people from Baker seriously injured in one-vehicle crash at Okaloosa County On Monday, May 23rd, 2016
Two people from Baker are in area hospitals following a one-vehicle accident in Okaloosa County late Monday night.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Hayley Marie Melanson, 19, was traveling at a high rate of speed in a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon when she lost control of the vehicle traveling east on Lighthouse Church Road.
When Melanson lost control, according to the accident report, the Tiburon crossed over the westbound lane and onto the northern shoulder of Lighthouse Church Road. Continuing eastbound on the shoulder of the road, the vehicle struck a guide
wire for a utility pole, a fence post and a tree. The Tiburon came to rest at the point of impact with the tree.
The FHP report said Melanson was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola and is listed in critical condition. A passenger in the car, 21-year-old Robert Michael McCart, is listed in serious condition at North Okaloosa Medical Center.
It was noted that alcohol was not related to the accident.
