Dayton, OH : Two people injured after car struck a tree in Montgomery County on Monday morning, January 25, 2016

Two people were taken to the hospital after their car struck a tree Monday morning.

It happened in the 1400 block of McArthur Avenue around 4:00 a.m.

Fire officials tell 2 NEWS a car lost control and hit a tree next to a home, catching fire just feet from the house.

Officials say the driver might have been speeding on McArthur Ave. causing the crash.

Firefighters had to work quickly to get the fire under control District Fire Chief Cheryl Clark said, “The challenge for us is to get the vehicle out as quickly as possible obviously because the quicker we get the vehicle out the less likely we are to have a structure involved.”

There is some damage to the front of the home but the two people inside, including a baby, made it out without injury.

The two people inside the car were taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. Officials say this situation could have been much worse. Neighbors heard the crash and help pull people from the burning car.

Sharon Williamson, a neighbor, said her sister and another person were able to pull out the two people trapped.

“She was saying thank you, thank you. And get the girl out, get her out,” she said.

Police marked off the scene, and closed McArthur Avenue for four hours while investigating.

The road has since reopened.
