Child struck by van, police car crashes in separate accidents that tie up Route 9 in Lakewood
Police are responding to two incidents, one where a child was struck by a white work utility type van and had to be pulled out and another crash involving a police car at Route 9 and 11th Street, said Police Chief Robert Lawson.
Witnesses said that the child was riding a bicycle when he was struck. Route 9 northbound is closed to traffic but police are alternating traffic with one southbound lane of Route 9.
The child suffered leg injuries by they do not appear life threatening, Lawson said.
A police car responding to a call crashed at Route 9 and 11th Street and while the officer had no injuries, the car had significant damage, Lawson said.
Police remain at the scene of both crashes. Traffic is also heavy on Clifton Avenue where vehicles are going to avoid Route 9. All drivers should avoid the area completely.
