Sgt. Todd Stallbaumer said the fatality victim was identified as Samantha E. Coffee, 16, of Topeka.

Coffee was the driver in one of the two vehicles that collided in the 100 block of N.E. 46th Street, Stallbaumer said in a statement about the crash.

The wreck was reported at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday on 46th between N.W. Topeka Blvd. and N.E. Indian Creek, about 1.4 miles from Seaman High School.

Sheriff Herman Jones told The Topeka Capital-Journal that Coffee had just turned 16 on Tuesday.

Coffee, the driver of a 2003 Suzuki Aerio, was pronounced dead at the scene, Stallbaumer said, and the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck had minor injuries.

Stallbaumer said the Aerio was traveling west on 46th when the vehicle entered the north shoulder.

Coffee overcorrected and the Suzuki crossed over to the eastbound lane where it was struck by the truck, authorities on scene said.

The drivers were wearing seat belts.
