Tampa, FL : Maine man killed and two other people hurt after being struck when a car drove onto a sidewalk in downtown Tampa on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, 2015

A man was killed and two women injured Wednesday when they were struck by a car on the Franklin Street sidewalk approaching the Harbour Island bridge, Tampa police said.

Philip Ortolani, 66, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, died at Tampa General Hospital, where he was taken after the collision, police said.

The car also hit Constance Ortolani, 66, also of Cape Elizabeth, and Beatrice Sanchez, 34, of Tampa. Both were taken to Tampa General and were in stable condition.

The driver, 68-year-old Samuel Steven Weinstein, of Tampa, appeared to have had a medical episode as he was driving south on Franklin, police said.

The 2013 Audi swerved off the road and hit the pedestrians at Old Water and Franklin streets, in front of the Sail Pavilion bar, part of the Tampa Convention Center.

Tampa police spokesman Lt. Doug Groves said Weinstein was cooperating with police.
