Two people are dead after a car crashed into a pond along I-4 in Volusia County on Monday afternoon.

Troopers arrived at the scene just before 2:30 p.m. at the scene north of the St. Johns River Bridge, near Deltona.

The Lexus SUV for some reason left the road and struck a tree, splitting it into two. Construction workers found the driver and passenger dead.

I-4 was completely shut down eastbound for a short time. The left lane reopened shortly before 3 p.m.

The names of the victims are not being released until next of kin is notified.
