Attleboro, MA : Man seriously injured in hit-run crash in Attleboro early Tuesday night, January 3, 2017
Police continue to investigate a hit-and-run accident early Tuesday night that left a man seriously injured.
The 60-year-old man was struck by a fleeing vehicle about 5:30 p.m. on North Main Street just before Peck Street and near St. John’s Church.
The victim was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, and was later taken to Rhode Island Hospital, Providence because of the seriousness of the injuries, which Fire Capt. Michael Maitland described as life-threatening.
The victim reportedly suffered a significant head injury.
It was raining at the time of the accident.
North Main Street was closed after the accident and was reopened just before 8 p.m. But police later in the night closed the busy main road again for their investigation.
A state police accident reconstruction team was called to the scene along with detectives.
A dark sedan was taken away by a flatbed tow truck but it was unclear if that was the vehicle involved.
City police also went to Plainville to investigate a report that a woman called police there and said her vehicle was damaged and she didn’t know how it happened.
Plainville police referred all questions to Attleboro police, who couldn’t be reached.
All questions about the accident Wednesday morning were being referred to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
