Bridgeport, CT : Multiple crashes along I-95 as Southwest CT roads freeze on Saturday, January 14th 2017

Temperatures in towns across I-95 dipped below freezing at dusk Saturday, catching drivers off guard.
Between 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., accidents were confirmed in Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Westport.
Here’s what to watch out for on I-95 Saturday afternoon:
Norwalk: A two-vehicle accident on I-95 Southbound on the Yankee Doodle Bridge between Exits 16 and 15. The left lane was closed, according to Connecticut State Police. Traffic was backed up into Westport.
Westport: Another two-car crash was reported by CSP on I-95 Southbound between Exits 18 and 17.
Bridgeport: On Route 8, a major crash required fluid cleanup and a medical response.
Shelton (5:30 p.m.): Also on Route 8, multiple spin-outs were reported near Exits 11 and 12 Southbound. Traffic was backed up to downtown Shelton.
An additional crash was reported north of the initial Route 8 crash near Bridgeport, a half mile north of Exit 8, around 5:15 p.m.
Road conditions are not likely to improve.
Snow began to fall Saturday afternoon and ice is gathering. As is common when there are delays on I-95, the Merritt Parkway appears to be slow, particularly on the northbound side, according to SigAlert.com.
