AMHERST, MA : At least 1 injured when vehicle crashes into utility pole on Bay Road in Amherst on Sunday, 9th February, 2020

A woman, trapped in her vehicle after she lost control and crashed into a utility pole on Bay Road Sunday morning, was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment, a fire department official said.

Fire Capt. Stephen Gaughan told the Daily Hampshire Gazette the crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the area of 1000 Bay Road. The vehicle damaged the pole and live wires fell onto the roadway.The victim — the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle — was conscious after the crash but could not safely be removed from the vehicle until Eversource personnel arrived and shut off power to the downed wires.

Police temporarily closed Bay Road between South East Street and Elf Hill Road while Eversource replaced the pole. Information on the victim’s injuries was not immediately available.
