Marion, NC : A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Tuesday, July 11, 2017
A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup truck on N.C. 80, authorities said Tuesday.
Shortly before noon, emergency units responded to the steep and curvy N.C. 80 after numerous calls regarding a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.
P.G. Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad and the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the call.
According to Trooper Kirk Hensley of the state Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist, 25-year-old Ger Khang of Lincolnton, was traveling northbound on N.C. 80 when his bike veered left of center and made contact with a black Toyota pickup truck, driven by 67-year-old Fonda Maready of Ponce Inlet, Fla.
“The motorcycle and rider separated from each other during the crash. The motorcycle came to rest on the southbound shoulder against the guardrail and the rider was pinned under the pickup truck,” said Hensley, who confirmed that speed played a factor in the collision.
Traffic north and southbound on N.C. 80 was closed for over an hour and 45 minutes as units worked at the scene.
Khang was pronounced dead at the scene.
