Danville, VA : Victim identified in deadly Mount Cross Road crash on Wednesday, September 13, 2017
Danville police have identified the victim of a Wednesday crash that shut down Mount Cross Road for hours.
Kelly Michelle Ferguson, 46, of Pittsylvania County, was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue personnel, according to a news release from the Danville Police Department.
Ferguson was the passenger in a 2006 Lincoln traveling southbound toward Danville around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The vehicle left the roadway briefly before crashing sideways into a 1996 Jeep SUV traveling north, striking the Lincoln’s passenger side.
The Lincoln’s driver was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Jeep was flown to Duke University Medical Center. Both remain hospitalized, said Brian Fox, assistant director of the Danville Life Saving Crew.
A passenger in the Jeep was transported and released by SOVAH Health–Danville.
The accident scene was finally cleared around 1:30 a.m., Fox said.
The Virginia State Police and Danville police investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
