A wrong-way driver crashed into a truck near 76th Street

A wrong-way driver crashed into a truck on the Skyway overnight, causing a fuel spill and Haz-Mat response from the Chicago Fire Department.

A woman driving a car north in the southbound lanes caused the crash near 76th Street about 1:30 a.m., according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

She hit a truck that leaked diesel fuel and forced crews to shut down the southbound lanes while the fire department worked to secure the hazardous materials.

Both the woman and the driver of the truck were taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital for injuries. The woman is expected to survive, police said, and citations are pending.

The Skyway - a name for Interstate 90 between about 63rd Street and Indiana - is now open.
