Austin, TX : 1 dead after head-on crash in Carson County on Monday, 24th October 2016
One person died and two others were injured in a head-on collision between a car and semi-truck Monday night in Carson County.
A 2004 Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling west on Interstate 40 just before 9 p.m. when a 2010 Dodge Charger traveling east left the road, crossed the center median and crashed head-on into the truck, police said. Road conditions were dry at the time of the accident.
The driver of the car, Tina Quinn, 48, of Amarillo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Department of Public Safety report said Quinn was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The semi-truck driver, Bobby Mason, 57, and passenger, Oneta Mason, 56, both of Amarillo, were transported to a local hospital with injuries. Bobby Mason was treated and released for his injuries, while Oneta Mason remains in critical condition.
Due to the extent of the damage to the Peterbilt, DPS officials were unable to determine if either Bobby or Oneta Mason were wearing seat belts.
Investigators were unable to determine why Quinn left the road surface and crossed the center median. The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved. The crash is still under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
