ST. PETERSBURG, FL : Alcohol factor in St. Pete crash that killed taxi passenger on Sunday, 27th January 2019

A taxi passenger was killed and three others were injured in a collision involving six vehicles in St. Petersburg Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The St. Petersburg Police Department says a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria Express Taxi was traveling southbound on 49th Street when it rear-ended a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe that was stopped at 38th Ave N.

"This caused a chain reaction and ultimately four additional vehicles who were stopped at the red light were hit," police said in a news release.

The driver of the taxi, David Yancey, 48, and his passenger Heather Scozzaro, 40, both suffered serious injuries and were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where Scozzaro later died.

Neither Scozzaro nor Yancey were wearing seatbelts, police said.
