Hillsboro, OR : 9-year-old hurt in hit-and-run crash Saturday night in Hillsboro on July 12, 2014
A 9-year-old boy was hit by a car that drove off without stopping Saturday night in Hillsboro, police said.
Aidan Penney was on his bike when the car hit him with its passenger-side mirror. It hit him so hard that it knocked him into his 10-year-old cousin who was with him, and it tore the mirror off the car.
"When the police picked it up for evidence on the back of it was a clump of hair pulled out by the roots," Elizabeth Penney, Aidan's mother said.
On Sunday, police arrested 48-year-old Kevin Borchert of Hillsboro after he called to say he thought he might have been involved in a crash.
"I think he did the right thing. It was the best thing for everybody to turn himself in and become accountable for his actions," Penney said.
Police said it was “miraculous” that the boy only received minor injuries and that the girl wasn’t hurt.
Witnesses said the car was a dark green convertible traveling west on SE Borwick St. They said the car was speeding, and that it was last seen heading south on SE Century Blvd. after failing to stop.
Borchert's car, a 2004 Porsche Boxter, matched the description and had damage that fit with what was reported. Borchert lives about a half-mile away.
Borchert was charged with failure to perform the duties of a driver and reckless driving.
