Dayton, OH : 7-year-old Kaleb Mondale Cook died in fatal SUV-bike crash on a Dayton street Monday afternoon, May 11, 2015

A boy riding his bicycle was struck and killed on a Dayton street Monday afternoon.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has identified the 7-year old as Kaleb Mondale Cook.

Family members say the boy was not wearing his helmet when he took the bike out for a ride. His mother and step-father say they just bought him the bike that same day for doing well in school.

Police say Cook was riding in the 1300 block of West Fifth Street around 4:30 p.m. when he was struck.

Cook was in first grade at the World of Wonder PreK-8 School in the Dayton Public Schools district.

Officers are investigating exactly what happened. The driver is cooperating with the investigation.

There were no other injuries.
