Southfield, MI : Madison Heights man dies in I-696 crash in Southfield on Tuesday night, April 5, 2016

Michigan State Police say a 30-year-old Madison Heights man was killed in a crash on I-696 in Southfield late Tuesday night.

State troopers were sent to the traffic crash in the left lanes of westbound I-696 between Greenfield and Southfield Roads around 11 p.m.

Preliminary investigation showed that the man, driving a Ford Fusion, had lost control of the vehicle and struck the rear end of a road maintenance vehicle.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, identified as Michael Julius Sadach, was the only person in the car at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said none of the road maintenance workers were injured as a result of the crash.

The freeway was closed until 4 a.m. Wednesday as troopers the Metro Post investigated the cause of crash, which is still not known.

A Michigan Department of Transportation spokeswoman said crews were sweeping the freeway at the time of the incident.
