Peoria, IL : Two men were injured in a one-vehicle crash near Illinois Route 116 On Monday, June 27th, 2016

Two men were hospitalized Monday afternoon following a one-vehicle crash near Illinois Route 116 and Spring Creek Road.

A pickup truck hauling a homemade trailer was headed west on Spring Creek Road about 4:40 p.m. Monday when the brakes failed, according to a news release from the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.

The passenger, Larry Thurman, 51, of St. Augustine, leaped out of truck as it continued toward oncoming traffic on Route 116. He was later taken by ambulance to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

The vehicle, still occupied by the driver, Terry D. Bell, 48, of Abingdon, crossed all four lanes of traffic before rolling over a guardrail on the west side of the road and landing in a ditch, according to the release. Bell was flown

to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Both men were reported to be in fair condition Monday night.
