Woodland, CA : Vehicle bursts into flames after Old River Road collision on Sunday , 4th September 2016
Two motorists, one from Woodland and the other from Chico, both received major injuries during a Sunday evening accident in which one of the vehicles burst into flame, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred around 8:40 p.m. when Zachary Bryant, 26, of Chico was driving his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup southbound on Old River Road in the vicinity of County Road 124.
At the same time, Josie Ferrera, 37, of Woodland was driving her 2003 Dodge Caravan northbound on the road when because of her alcohol intoxication she allowed her vehicle to cross over into the soutbound lane, according to the CHP.
According to the CHP, Bryan tried to avoid the Dodge, but couldn’t do so.
The vehicles collided in the southbound lane with the Chevy coming to rest in the northbound lane of traffic. Ferrera’s Dodge traveled off the road and down the west embankment of Old River Road.
Several people heard the impact of the collision, according to the CHP, and were at the scene quickly and able to get Cox out of her Dodge before it became fully engulfed in flames.
Cox suffered major internal injuries while Bryant suffered major facial injuries. Both were transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available.
