A pickup and a semi-tractor/trailer accident Friday night has claimed the life of young Le Mars man.
At 8:54 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, the Plymouth County Communications Center received numerous 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle accident on Highway 3 just east of Le Mars.
Callers stated two vehicles were involved and an ambulance was needed.
A preliminary investigation at the scene by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol reported Evan Niebuhr, 19, of Le Mars, was traveling west in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
Jeffrey Knudson, 44, of Akron, was traveling east on the highway, driving a 1997 Freightliner truck/tractor.
Both vehicles entered a curve in the roadway and the pickup truck veered into the eastbound lane and was hit by the semi.
Niebuhr, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was taken by Le Mars Ambulance to Floyd Valley Healthcare and later transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. He died as a result of his injuries.
Knudson was not injured in the accident.
The two drivers were the only people in the vehicles.
Responding to the accident were officers from the Le Mars Police Department, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, Le Mars Ambulance, Le Mars Fire-Rescue and the Iowa State Patrol.
The investigation is ongoing by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Patrol and the Le Mars Police Department.
