SUNNYSIDE, WA : Grandview man killed in car crash near Sunnyside on Sunday, December, 24th 2017

A 24-year-old Grandview man died this week after he was thrown from the car he was driving after it hit a tree south of Sunnyside.

Heriberto Maya Jr. was northbound about 1:15 a.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of Waneta Road when the 1991 Honda Civic he was driving left the road and hit a tree, according to information released Thursday evening by the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.

Maya was thrown from the car and died at the scene, deputies said.

Deputies say there were indications that Maya was intoxicated, not wearing a seat belt and driving more than the posted 50 mph speed limit. Blood-alcohol results are pending.

The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
