GOWRIE, IA : Jefferson man cited in Friday crash that hurt five on Friday, September 8, 2017
A Jefferson man was cited in a Friday afternoon crash at the intersection of Iowa Highway 175 and Fairbanks Avenue that left him and four others injured, according to Iowa State Patrol crash reports.
Donald Bishop, 68, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup southbound with a livestock trailer full of sheep when he reportedly failed to yield at the intersection.
A Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Linda Dreckman, 67, of Le Mars, collided with the truck in the south portion of the intersection.
Both vehicles ended up in the southeast corner of that intersection.
Bishop was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He has been cited with failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way, the Iowa State Patrol reported.
Dreckman was traveling eastbound in the sport utility vehicle with three other passengers.
Dreckman was transported by ambulance to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge with serious injuries.
Sheryl Olson, 67, of Sioux City, was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Suasan Smith, 64, of Hinton, and Belinda Shorman, 56, of Lawton, were transported by separate ambulances to UnityPoint. Smith reportedly suffered serious injuries. Shorman’s injuries were believed to be minor.
Both vehicles were totaled.
Several sheep were also reportedly injured.
Ambulances from Southwest Webster, Calhoun County, and Farnhamville emergency medical services responded to the scene.
The Gowrie and Harcourt fire departments, Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Gowrie police, and Iowa State Patrol were also on scene.
