Lee, FL : Man injured in Hwy. 90 wreck on Monday, 14th September, 2020

One occupant of a heavily-damaged vehicle was transported to a nearby Georgia hospital after a nasty accident near Macedonia Baptist Church, in Lee, on Monday, Sept. 14, around 5:30 p.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports that the driver of a red Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on US Hwy. 90, toward Madison, when he started drifting onto the south shoulder of the road. The male driver overcorrected the vehicle and struck a concrete culvert, going airborne.

The sedan hit a tree and then traveled westbound again on the south shoulder, striking a Duke Energy power pole which brought down Tri-County Electric power lines onto the vehicle that was overturned onto the driver's side.

Madison Fire Chief Bruce Jordan recalls that the driver was out of the vehicle when he arrived. He also noted that the vehicle caught fire in the engine compartment, but was unsure if it was due to the electric wires or a malfunction under the hood.

The driver, whose name was not released by FHP, was taken by Madison County Fire Rescue to South Georgia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He was charged with careless driving.
