Pueblo, CO : Pueblo bakery stays busy after car crashes into building on Tuesday, Nov 24, 2015
Business isn't slowing down at a popular Pueblo bakery, after a driver accidentally crashed into the building Tuesday.
Pueblo police say a driver crashed into the Banquet Schusters Bakery, at 115. E. Abriendo Avenue.
The building was damaged, but no one inside was hurt.
Sgt. Howard Jackson says an elderly female driver was parked in front of the bakery and was trying to leave when she accidentally crashed into the building. The driver was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
Owner Janet Monack said the crash sounded like a "bomb or an explosion."
While employees weren't able to use the normal storefront Wednesday, the company owns the building next door and turned that into a makeshift pick-up area.
"Thanksgiving is probably the biggest single day, and it wouldn't have been how I would've planned this one," Monack said with a laugh.
Still, customers were relieved to find the business was open Wednesday.
"I was hoping they'd still be open," said Pat Zamarripa. "I didn't want to disappoint my daughter."
"I thought, 'Oh my God, I don't have a backup plan.' So I'm glad they had a backup plan," said Yamire Liles.
Monack said the windows may stay boarded up for a while as employees work with the insurance company to determine the damage. Meanwhile, it's business as usual.
"I'm just so grateful that nobody was hurt -- that would have been a horrible tragedy," Monack said. "This is brick and mortar -- that can all be fixed."
